Recruitment and Training of Investigators

Human Resources:+50 investigators, supervisors, quality controllers on the national territory. +50 investigators, quality controllers and supervisors in each country of intervention in the sub-region (Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, Cameroon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea Conakry, Kenya, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, DRC, Senegal, Togo).

Data collection tools: Programming of the physical Questionnaire on a server then redirected to the PDAs. Face-to-face administration at the household or point of sale level.

Logistics: We have Android devices (PDAs) that can be sent to each country of coverage to execute a project. Online (Web Internet) for specific studies on customer request.

Different platforms for scripting: Survey to Go / Open kit data / RCS Data collection

Survey To Go (STG)) :

  • Automatic creation and deployment of complex tablet surveys
  • Centralized project management allows you to stay on top of data, quotas and interviewers' locations (GPS location, record silence, similar responses etc...) in order to monitor data quality in real time.
  • Ability to conduct offline surveys and translate surveys into multiple languages
  • Secure and private system (data downloaded from the tablets is erased for added security)

SurveyCTO :

  • Rapid creation and deployment of tablet forms
  • Centralized project management allows you to stay on top of data, quotas and interviewers' locations (GPS location, record silence etc...) in order to monitor data quality in real time.
  • Ability to conduct surveys offline
  • Secure and private system (data downloaded from the tablets is erased for added security)

Quality Control Procedure

QC process: once the interview is synchronized on our server. GPS capture allows us to track each device and then control the sampling pitch for each survey area.

With the start and end time of the interview, we can evaluate the duration of an interview per target and the performance of the group per day and per survey area. Short interviews are considered suspicious and will be reviewed by quality controllers (QC) to ensure that all questions are correctly administered.

Interviewers are trained on interview techniques, identification of the survey area defined in the sampling plan, the eligible target and how to enter data into applications. Below are some tips that we use for quality control.

  • Ensure that the correct version of the application is properly synchronized on the tablets: After the pilot phase, we may need to make some corrections to the questionnaire or update the list of survey areas. This requires updating a new version of the application. All interviews must be on the same page to avoid synchronization errors.

GPS TRACKING:
Once the interviewers are in the field, our team of data analysts monitors their deployment to ensure that they follow the respondent selection process. Thus, GPS coordinates will make it possible to control the mesh size of the survey area and the movement of the interviewers to ensure that they were actually in the field, in the survey areas defined in the deployment plan and, above all, to verify compliance with the sampling pitch.

Checking the consistency of responses:

  • Removal of forms with a high rate of missing values (more than 30%);
  • Checking similar forms (identical answers) ;
  • Checking the time interval between two interviews ;
  • Monitoring of the evolution of the characteristic variables of the target population (age, gender, marital status etc...) ;
  • Etc...

Record Silence (Silent recording of interviews):
The recording silences support the above-mentioned quality control tools. They make it possible to lift the presumption made on a maintenance following a detected anomaly. They are also very useful to ensure that interviewers respect the selection process guaranteeing data quality.
